DVDs in this online library are rated using a star system.
Presenting a blend of both personal and collective experiences, at a glance the
stars shown on all DVDs give a clear indication as to the quality of content
therein.
In addition to personal perspectives, many DVDs have been
collectively, community rated using the IMDB rating system (or other), with this
information shown as/where available. In this system, movies are given a rating
by individuals of 0.0-10.0, the mean value of these being used herein.
Ratings are also shown for artists - these being the average of
all the respective participation ratings.
Here's a list of the meanings of the star ratings:
 |
5 Stars |
A stomper. A stormer. A stomdiddler. The stuff DVDs were made for.
5 star DVDs represent the best of their genre and/or are notable for
other reasons.
Consider these amongst your premiere choices for a great watch.
Note that this rating includes IMDB rated DVDs of 9.5 or better. |
 |
4.5 Stars |
Great viewing, perhaps with one or two weaker points; just slightly
missing out on being first rank material.
Well worthwhile one and all, but not the first cabs on the rank.
Includes IMDB rated DVDs between 8.5 and 9.4. |
 |
4 Stars |
Applause due for all movies 4 star and above, a good watch
guaranteed.
Definitely some notable appeal, with aspects above the rest.
Includes IMDB rated DVDs between 7.5 and 8.4. |
 |
3.5 Stars |
A good, average kinda view.
Expect to find the better of the norm here, preferable to most, but
towards the rear of the second division.
Includes IMDB rated DVDs between 6.5 and 7.4. |
 |
3 Stars |
Smack, bang average.
Meat and drink DVD. Better than twiddling thumbs, but there's better
(and worse!) around.
Includes IMDB rated DVDs between 5.5 and 6.4. |
 |
2.5 Stars |
Into less favoured fields, these DVDs fail to meet all expectations.
Not all bad, there's perhaps some less desirable aspects and/or poorer
content/delivery/editing/work.
Includes IMDB rated DVDs between 4.5 and 5.4. |
 |
2 Stars |
Decidedly into the 'B' list, 2 Star DVDs have some merits, but
overall failed to please.
Worth a watch if interested/not seen before, but don't expect too much -
there's better around.
Includes IMDB rated DVDs between 3.5 and 4.4. |
 |
1.5 Stars |
Heading south further, these DVDs aren't the best.
Some notable good stuff, better nothing for a rainy day.
Plumb these depths for curios or whim by all means, but don't expect
fulfilment (or too much!).
Includes IMDB rated DVDs between 2.5 and 3.4. |
 |
1 Stars |
At the bottom end of the market, 1 Star DVDs don't have too much
going for them.
Something of worth in here, but barely worth the time.
Includes all IMDB rated DVDs between 1.5 and 2.4. |
 |
0.5 Stars |
Here's the also rans, the deadwood, the tumbleweed.
Don't hesitate to avoid if in preference to others - maybe something of
pass?interest, but only of marginal interest.
Includes all IMDB rated DVDs between 0.5 and 1.4. |
 |
0 Stars |
The detritus, the renegade, the worthless.
Maybe you've some reason for watching any of these (again), but I don't.
The thought made it worth a go, but the reality was found overwhelmingly
wanting.
Why these are still on my shelves eludes me.
Includes all IMDB rated DVDs between 0.0 and 0.4. |
| |
Unrated |
Alas! No IMDB or personal rating for this one yet!
Drop me a line if you're in a quandary about a particular unrated
DVD. |
